Description
The enemy attacks at first light. The firefight is fierce but brief. The enemy fighters vanish as quickly as they appeared. You break cover and pursue. A short distance away you find a Viet Cong fighter, wounded and bleeding crawling through the grass. You approach slowly with your rifle at the ready. You don`t speak his language but it`s obvious this guy is asking for mercy and help. Go easy, your next move could come with consequences. Consequences that could last a lifetime.

Hi Dave!!! Dramatic and painful artwork...It is very sad that humanity is always embarked on warlike processes. A really touching work. I can not even imagine what you must have suffered there. A big hug

The horrors of war.....and to know that it's still going on and on and on with moments such as this happening perhaps as I type these words.....young boys, (and women too) some even children.....and your art speaks volumes to this human condition. To help us understand the consequences. Great art, Dave ...from a great soul. F/L+++

Dave, you have captured the drama that one must live through in battle. Great artwork. f

You are a hero in so many ways. You win the biggest heart award. You bless everyone you encounter with your gentle spirit and beautiful art. You make a difference in the world with your kindness.

What can I say, other than you have shown me and other people a taste of the reality many have faced. You have masterfully brought to life a dark day but also turned it into an oppurtunity to spread awareness. Love your truly meaningful work Dave! Thank you for your sacrifices and great attitude.
Dave Farrow replied:
Lori my dear, thank you for such an awesome comment. You leave me humbled...thank you so very much

Wonderful acrylic painting as always Dave, in which you so portrayed the horrific drama you faced no doubt hundreds of times and you make it feel so real! Your circumstances back then have remained part of your soul and I am so glad that you can use your art to hopefully deal with it in that way! Once again you have painted your wonderful dramatic sky that seems to fit so well! You should be truly proud as a soldier and an artist!.......l/f

Is this you bro...? Did it come to that and what did you do? I might have wasted him back in the day.. War makes you do strange things.... Your work makes one think.... and that's good. I didn't have it as bad as some guys did but being a TARGET gets to you after a while. I went on RR to Bangkok, Thailand and remember crying my eyes out because the pressure was off and I was out of the target. No one wanted to kill me for the next few days but knowing in the back of my mind that I had to go back and get into the center of that TARGET again, was hard. Welcome home bro... Welcome home... Great work of art!..... L/F.......Carry On!
Dave Farrow replied:
Reid, this was a bad, very bad day. I know exactly what you mean by "target". After 2 or 3 weeks in the bush us guys felt such relief coming back to our base camp. We drank cold beer, laughed and got a nights sleep. Then we would get orders to go back out in the bush and the nightmare began all over again. Well bro, you and I survived. Welcome home to you warrior buddy. No more target time for either us anymore.

Thank You Dave for painting of what must have been a very heart wrenching memory for you - and for showing us so dramatically - the lunacy, the pain, the fear, the torment - and The Humanity that happen in any cursed war .

Dave, having just basked in your "Spring Time" painting, I'm now facing "Consequences" You paint and write from the depths of your experience and as a result share with us some remarkable pieces of art. The feeling in those eyes, the message of the body language between the two, the profoundness of this moment, ALL you have captured here. Magnificent and thought provoking art and so full of compassion. L/F

This has the impact of a sledgehammer to the face Dave. Understanding that this comes from a place within that is very real, very genuine... it creates a feeling beyond my ability to properly place into words. All that I can say about this amazing work is thank you for bringing it forth from that place within you. Unreal bro.

Dave, I am nearly speechless and unsure how I will respond as I write. I read the other comments and was very affected by them before viewing the work more closely. I see in it so much of the same emotions mentioned by others, especially the openness of Viet Cong soldier. The description is moving and dreadful at the same time. There is much compassion in this work, flowing from you as artist and veteran, inseparably in this particular painting. And there is much anguish and uncertainty as well. The lines of the two figures are so meaningful in this fine work; the elements of color, composition, and texture are excellent, as always. my friend. You have expressed much in this work, Dave, that is profound. l/f/g+
